Hello and welcome. This is an article that is certainly GREATLY needed. A minimum of I believe it is. I began wearing make-up around age 14 and once I started, it had been an unacceptable shade for my skin tone. So! I am trying to speak out for all of the Beautiful, Brown-Skinned Black Women who have as hard an occasion finding makeup when i do. So, let me offer you a little background on me.
First of all, Black is beautiful, as well as the darker the berry the sweeter the juice! With that being said, at 14 I found myself a little blackberry without a clue. When I first started wearing makeup it was actually just lipstick plus it started being my mom’s Fashion Fair. My mother that is light-skinned and contains a daughter who may be dark-skinned. Naturally her lipstick failed to match by any means. I was even termed as a dark-skinned Ronald McDonald with a previous ex-boyfriend!
So, I believe that us brown-skinned and dark-skinned women need a little extra help since it is more difficult for people to find makeup that suits in drugstores, or makeup dark skin which is affordable. Plus Cosmo and Glamour and all of them be referring to great makeup for spring, but uh, hello have you forget black girls like make-up for spring too? So, I feel your pain. I am just a self-appointed makeup aficionado, and want to offer my experiences along with some items that are FABO and never a lot fabo. So… without further ado, let’s get moving!
JUST AN FYI: They are all make-ups that I have experienced to work with through learning from mistakes and so i am sharing from EXPERIENCE!
FACE: I fight to find a good foundation, and full-coverage makeup that is affordable so below are a few wonderful finds i are finding which can be both.
1-Cover Girl Queen Collection Natural Hue Liquid Foundation- Spicy Brown
PROS- it is actually efficient at matching skin tones who have yellow or red undertones, spreads easily and in case you just need moderate coverage gives you a good value for your money. It can be affordable ranging about 6-8 bucks, and you will think it is in many drugstores, and grocery stores.
CONS- If you have brown spots and blemishes, this will NOT provide you with the policy you will need! Not really close, okay? Furthermore, it wears off quickly so you would need to reapply often. The bottle is upside down with a little spout, so when you pour out excessive, you can not place it back into the bottle and then in these times of financial meltdown er’ tiny bit counts am I right ladies?!
Also, if you have troubles matching the skin tone since you have BOTH yellow and red, or even blue and red undertones, this collection will not be for you as there is not really a vast selection to select from, so you might must proceed. Other shades that are good for brown-skinned to dark-skinned gals, and several of you fellas! Rich Mink, Sheer Espresso, and True Ebony.
2- Cover Girl Queen Collection Natural Hue Compact Foundation
PROS-It will give you more coverage compared to Liquid Foundation. That’s it. That’s about all I could imagine.
CONS-Unfortunately, it rubs off QUITE quickly. It is additionally tinted slightly differently compared to liquid foundation thus i found it harder to suit my skin. Also, whenever it was warm outside it wipes RIGHT off, and revealed every blemish in my face! LOL, additionally, it wipes off in your clothes, stains both hands, the whole bit. It’s moderately priced also, so if you would like look nice for any date at nighttime, going somewhere cool, it’s a fast fix, having said that i wouldn’t put it on on the club, or a carnival, anywhere that might be warm, or sweaty. It can be purchased in a similar.
3- Black Opal True Color Liquid Foundation – Black Walnut
PROS-Awesome Coverage. There is a reasonably bit inside the bottle thus it may last you quite a while. It is an upright standing bottle using a generous opening, when you pour out an excessive amount of, it won’t be too hard to get into the bottle, so that you can SAVE, SAVE, SAVE! I wear foundation every day, sometimes wash my face and re-apply if heading out that night, and also this bottle lasts me with regards to a good sixty days roughly. You will notice that it ranges from about 8-12 bucks… based on where you live. So it is an incredible buy.
CONS- In case you have combination to oily skin, WEAR POWDER, whilst keeping it along! Throughout these upcoming warm to hot days, you could possibly look really greasy within the face. But when you retain Blotters along, or powders, you need to be okay. Also, it might just be that MY skin tone changes, thus if that is the situation disregard, nevertheless i realize that once i go to buy a completely new one, the shade may well not match like the previous one, so be mindful of this.
Another con is the fact Black Opal Products may be a little harder to discover in stores than other products which I mention. I don’t determine it’s that they’re not that popular, or what, but whenever I look I usually see them either in Rite-Aid, or CVS. So, happy hunting. Other colors best for brown-skinned girls… Carob, Suede Mocha, and Ebony Brown….. As well as for you borderline caramel to brown-skin girls, Hazelnut!
4-Maybelline Pure Makeup (Shine Free Foundation with H2O) – Cocoa (Dark 3)
PROS- Very inexpensive, readily accessible. Situated in Most drugstores, supermarkets, Wal-Mart. Costs range about 5.99-10 bucks, based on your region. Full coverage, doesn’t clog your pores, spreads easily.
CONS-Upside-down tube, so you should be exact regarding how much is essential for your personal face, cause if you are using a lot of… it can get wasted. Limited colors for darker skin color. They just have THREE shades for girls of OUR color. Dark 1- Tan, Dark 2- Caramel, and Dark 3-Cocoa. We have used the Cocoa. It really is way too dark for my skin-tone.
However, the Caramel Dark 2 is simply too light. So, should you be pressed for the money and don’t have the cash to experiment, I wouldn’t waste my time for this product. They have FIVE shades devoted to light, FOUR for medium and simply three for people like us darkies??!!! Leave the product alone, except if you eventually match EXACTLY. Good luck evading the lady who attempts to watch you if you try and sample the items inside the store!
5- Black Radiance Color Perfect Oil Free Liquid Makeup- Cocoa Bean
PROS-Very reasonable! VERY! Somewhat accessible. Costs about 5.99-10 bucks, and you can think it is in a lot of Beauty Supply stores, CVS carries it. Spreads evenly, good coverage, get quite a bit for the buck. Also, can be purchased in a jar by having an open spout, if you have excessive, you can place it back there. Offers you a fantastic matte finish.
CONS- Cocoa Bean will not match my complexion! Nevertheless I likewise have strange undertones going on with my skin, so which can be why it is actually so hard to complement. If you apply this makeup it dries another color, it’s crazy. There’s this… weird… applicator thingy, unsure how to deal with it, but it got within my way basically. Says it is good for all kinds of skin, having said that i have very sensitive skin on my face, and I discovered that within 30 mins my face was suffocating and i also found it necessary to wash it well. Other shades to use are Brownie and Mocha Honey.
6- L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable Makeup- Nut Brown
PROS-Oh my goodness you guys this makeup was awesome! Spread really, fantastic! Matches wonderfully for a yellow undertone. Does indeed a brown-skinned girl justice. Light, so that your skin can breathe. Good coverage for females with blemishes. Pretty easy to find, and I say that with hesitance, because 7 times out from 10 they will likely carry all BUT the shades for brown-skinned. Um, I locate them at Wal-Mart, Walgreens..and that’s pretty much it.
CONS- This system has SPF and I am VERY allergic to sun block so it broke me out something terrible. Kind of difficult to find. It’s a little more expensive than the previous products mentioned. MMM, I might say about 10.99 and up. You may be able to think it is on sale. Also, there is certainly not a whole lot in the bottle, so use sparingly if you can. Other shades to try out…. Soft Sable and Cocoa.
7- Revlon Color Stay Makeup with Soft Flex – Mahogany
PROS- Pretty readily accessible in most drugstores. Colors are perfect for brown-skinned girls. Kind of affordable. Just a little about the high end but about 9.99-12.99 for this particular product. The policy is okay… Not the best, but should you be looking for light to moderate coverage this is a good product.
CONS- Now, I found that Mahogany failed to match my undertones that great. I know…. Again using the undertones. It dried and made my skin look just a little grayish and chalky. There is certainly 58deyypky a real good selection to select from for darker skin color. Has SPF6, damaging to me, but good for everyone who is just not allergic. Also, again, if you don’t possess the undertone problem…. Other shades to try… Cappuccino and Mocha.
And lastly but Most certainly not least…
8- Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse – Cocoa (Dark 3)
PROS- OH MY GOSH…… loving this product!! (sing song voice) this is basically the current constitute I am using now! It def does just what the commercial says. It covers your pores, and offers you with a great finish! Maximum coverage! Need NO concealer, well… maybe slightly, but I don’t use any. It is extremely affordable, anywhere from about 7-10 bucks. I found it right at the Kroger supermarket, so it ought to be offered by most pharmacies. It possesses a nifty little nozzle that squirts out and it’s really convenient. Additionally it is whipped feeling, and I apply with my fingers.
It just glides right on, and begins covering my pores and dark spots, and its particular not very heavy, I don’t have to put on a bunch. The top also comes off, in case I over-squirt, I can use it right back into the bottle. There’s lots within the bottle, and you don’t need to use a good deal for coverage. I do believe I got this bottle monthly ago and that i still have a little bit more than half a bottle left. It’s great! I like it. Hopefully this will be the end of the road in my opinion, but usually it isn’t!
